Are there any restrictions to travel?
Generally there are no restrictions, you may travel anywhere in the North or South Island of New Zealand with a few exceptions:
90 Mile Beach(Northland), Ball Hutt Road (Mt Cook), Skippers Canyon (Queenstown) all roads north of Colville on the Coromandel Peninsula.

Driver Eligibility?
All drivers must present a current acceptable overseas licence or New Zealand or International licence.

Young and Additional drivers?
The minimum age is 18. Drivers under the age of 21 are charged a higher excess on their insurance of $2500 plus GST, drivers over the age of 21 pay $1500 plus GST excess.  Excess for rental of a 4WD is higher please contact us for more details.
Each named driver is charged $2.00 to be included in the rental agreement and each driver must meet the same requirements as the primary driver.

What documentation is required when picking up a car?
When picking up a car we will require you to bring your full valid Driving License and a credit card in your name.

What methods of payment do you accept?
We accept Visa and Mastercard as well as EFTPOS and NZ travellers cheque payments.  Sorry we do NOT accept American Express cards.

When do I pay for my rental?
When you make an online booking with AEQ Rentals details of your credit card are stored to reserve the vehicle however no money is actually taken from your credit card until the vehicle is picked up. When you pick up the vehicle a bond is required for all hires. This is just an imprint of your credit card on hold until the end of hire. We hand over the imprinted voucher to you on return of vehicle as per terms of hire. This guarantees us the return of vehicle on time, and in the condition it was hired and as per terms of hire.

What happens if my flight is delayed?
When you make an online booking with AEQ Rentals – your booking is confirmed.  We track all flights in and out of Auckland International Airport and so we hold it until the flight has landed.  If a customer does not come to collect a car that has been booked once a flight has landed, a cancellation fee of 20% of the original booking rate will apply and will be charged to the customer’s credit card.

Once the car is booked, where do I pick up the car from?
Collecting your rental car from our Auckland Airport pick up point could not be simpler. Once your flight has landed – call us on the FREEPHONE number 0800 786 785 and we will direct you to a free shuttle bus service.  We are located only a few minutes away from the main Airport Terminals.  If you require we can organise for pick up/drop off in Auckland City at an additional cost of $45.00 each way.

Are there any mileage restrictions?
No, we offer unlimited mileage so you can drive as far as you like within New Zealand.

Can I upgrade a car, once I have made a booking?
Usually it is not a problem to upgrade a vehicle, so long as the replacement car is available.  We will do all we can to accommodate any changes you wish to make to your rental.  If you are not completely satisfied with the rental vehicle supplied on the day of pick up, you are under no obligation to take the vehicle.

Can I rent a vehicle one way?
All our rental bookings are for pick up and drop off at Auckland Airport, however we can arrange for a pick up/drop off in central Auckland with a surcharge of $45.  We can arrange for a one way hire between Auckland and Christchurch however a relocation surcharge will apply. Please email to enquire rate and availability.

What does the insurance include?
All AEQ vehicles come with a full comprehensive cover. Our insurance cover includes windscreen damage. Excess (deductible) applies to drivers of all vehicles as follows:
CATEGORY STANDARD EXCESS REDUCED EXCESS CDW on 4 plus days hire
Cars and stationwagons $1500 +GST $250 +GST $12 per day
(minimum $48 applies)
4WD, People Movers, mini-vans, Cargo Vans $1500 +GST $500 +GST 4+ days is $15 per day
(minimum $60 applies)
Single vehicle accident $2500 +GST Does not apply Does not apply

TAX
Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 15% is included in all rates quoted.

Do you provide any optional products?
AEQ Rentals offer the following optional extras
Child Car Seats - It is compulsory in New Zealand that all children under five years of age be seated in appropriate child seats. Child seats and booster seats can all be pre booked online stating the age of the child at the time of the rental. The booking process is very simple.  A small fee applies.
GPS – customers renting a car from AEQ Rentals can hire GPS this can be done online or at the time of pick up.
Additional drivers - can be added to the car rental agreement at a cost of $2.00 per additional driver.  Each additional driver must present a current acceptable overseas licence or New Zealand or International licence.

Opening hours?
We are open 24hours a day, 7 days a week.  We are the ONLY Auckland Airport Car Rental provider to offer such a service.

What happens if the car breaks down?
In the unlikely event of a mechanical breakdown all AEQ vehicles are covered by a FREE 24 hr AA Roadside breakdown cover.

What happens if I am late in dropping off the vehicle? 
Our rental period is based on a full 24 hour period.If you are late in dropping off your vehicle  you will be charged for an extra day rental.

Will I be able to tow using the rental car?
No, towing is not permitted using any of our vehicles.
 
What happens if I have to cancel my rental?
All cancellations are subject to a cancellation fee equivalent to 20% of the original booking.

Will my rental car be an automatic or manual transmission?

The majority of our vehicles have automatic transmissions however you can specify a manual transmission vehicle if you prefer when you make your booking.
